Welcome to Margin & Mic: A Club for Written & Spoken Word held in the cozy glow of Downside Up. This is your space to slow down, write freely, and speak your truth (if you feel like it). We’ll start with a prompt to get your pen moving. You’ll have time to sip, write, vibe, and…if the moment feels right, step up to the mic and share your words.

Prompt + Pour

Immediately following a yoga session, Prompt + Pour is a poetry night for writers, readers, and the poetry-curious. This event is created to enable community members to hear poetry in a warm, welcoming space. Poets do not need to have previous experience or sign-up before the event in order to participate in sharing or reading.

House of MK AZ is a community space with intentional partnerships of Meraki Kava Bar, Tracezen.Yoga, Shop Tea, and PHX Poetry Slam with B-Jam.

The Esso Poetry Open Mic is a recurring, community-focused event held every third Sunday of the month at Esso Coffeehouse & Roastery (4700 N. 12th St., Phoenix),. The event typically begins at 5 p.m., with sign-ups for performers opening around 4:45 p.m.. Readers are generally given 5 minutes each to share their work.

See a poetry slam using a unique head-to-head match format! The winner of each match is determined by audience applause, so be prepared to get rowdy for your favorite poets and poetry throughout this event! The poetry at this event is meant to be raw and performative in an intimate setting. Body Slam is hosted by Skyelyn Riggs-Davis at the PHX Quaker Meeting House. Doors open at 6:30pm. Admission is $10 at the door.

Want to make time to write and meet other like-minded people in the local writing community? Don’t miss Ghost Poetry Show’s free monthly writing prompt night!

Here’s how the evening works. We’ll pick an attendee-submitted prompt, set a timer for seven minutes while everyone writes, and give an opportunity to share for those who want to do so before moving on to the next prompt. All you need is something to write on—smartphone, laptop, notebook, it’s up to you. If you’d like to make more time to write or meet a new friend, you won’t want to miss it.

This event is at our Phoenix location at 300 West Camelback Road, steps from the uptown Light Rail stop and directly across from the Park and Ride at Third Ave and Camelback.

Ghost Poetry Show Poetry Slam

15 poets compete in a poetry slam for cash prizes judged by 5 randomly selected audience members.

Through the competitive, high-energy environment of a “slam,” poets are encouraged to build both writing skills and confidence. Forget the old school idea of poetry open mics and academia. This event will make a ghost out of your grandfather’s poetry readings.

The Rebel Lounge is a live music venue located in Phoenix, Arizona. Housed in what used to be the home of The Mason Jar, Stephen Chilton of Psyko Steve Presents took over the building in 2015 to turn it into The Rebel Lounge.
