Open Mic Open Studio is a free, collaborative arts experience in Downtown Phoenix, presented by PHX Poetry Slam and Evoke Presents. This immersive event brings together poetry, music, and live visual art — all unfolding in real time.

Through the competitive, high-energy environment of a “slam,” poets are encouraged to build both writing skills and confidence. Forget the old school idea of poetry open mics and academia. This event will make a ghost out of your grandfather’s poetry readings.

The Rebel Lounge is a live music venue located in Phoenix, Arizona. Housed in what used to be the home of The Mason Jar, Stephen Chilton of Psyko Steve Presents took over the building in 2015 to turn it into The Rebel Lounge.

Here’s how the evening works. We’ll pick an attendee-submitted prompt, set a timer for seven minutes while everyone writes, and give an opportunity to share for those who want to do so before moving on to the next prompt. All you need is something to write on—smartphone, laptop, notebook, it’s up to you. If you’d like to make more time to write or meet a new friend, you won’t want to miss it.
